Since network marketing became “cool” in the online space in the last 2 years, we have seen an influx of wraps, product posts, and people selling items on pages all over the interwebs.
It’s an incredible time, as it’s never been easier to start an online business and produce results in such a short amount of time.
But with the good also comes the “bad”- people who are stressed out from not knowing exactly how to market their business, let alone network online.
Online Networking Gone Wrong
Networking is much different than just holding up a sign saying, “Come talk to me!”. Online, we need to feel and nurture a connection. Many entrepreneurs are lost on how to effectively market their business and themselves in online social circles.
How to Avoid the Common Networking Mistakes
With all the “get rich quick” sayings being thrown around, it has skewed the perception of what it actually takes to build a 6-7 figure business. Entrepreneurs often assume that if you just send 5 cold messages you’ll make a million dollars – that’s very far from the truth!
1. Don’t Be a Phony.
Create authentic connection and inspire action. Much like when you go to a conference or watch a speaker, you get inspired with the value you absorb. Network marketing is like that as well. Top earners know the secret to getting people aboard their vision and it isn’t convincing them…it’s sharing a vision then drawing people in those who share the passion and vision.
2. Don’t Jump the Gun Too Soon.
The biggest mistake we’ve seen is jumping the gun too soon. This could mean posting a link right away, or worse, sending cold messages to anyone who likes your social media page. This is a sure fire way to break trust and end up in the NFL (No Friends Left) Zone.
3. Seek to Add Value.
As entrepreneurs, we should be always seeking how we can connect, add value, and enrich others’ lives.
Many people ask what came first, the chicken or the egg. Well, in network marketing, often times people think “when I get a sale then I’ll help people.” But that doesn’t build likability and trust. What does is helping others and inspiring others before mentioning your product. Work this business like you don’t need the money, but want to pour into others and it will come back tenfold when you do post an offer.
4. Put Yourself Out There (but not too much).
One effective marketing tactic is live video. Many entrepreneurs live by the notion that the more live videos you do, the more money you will make. When in doubt, GO LIVE!!
Going live connects you to your audience and builds trust and likability with your tribe. It helps people get to know you, and understand what your business is all about.
5. Be Clear in Your Intention.
In simple terms, be clear on what your selling. Be upfront about what you can provide others, and create valuable content around it. Engage with others in an authentic way. You want to establish yourself as an authority in your field, while avoiding gimmicks or hollow promises of “success”. Overtime, your reputation will proceed you and you will need no introduction. Be your true self and sell your knowledge. People will come to you!
